Opal Mushroom Mug
This wheel thrown stoneware mug features four hand sculpted mushrooms, fits around 12-13 ounces of liquid, and food safe glaze. The outside is a yellow/opalescent glaze and the inside is a matte off white color. There is some pitting on the outside like what occurs with some shino glazes so if you don’t like texture this may not be the mug for you.
I call this glaze Opal as it reminds me of the most striking yellow Ethiopian opals. This glaze has shimmery qualities and ranges from whiteish to yellow.
Each vessel is wheel thrown, trimmed, adornments and handles are added, then it is kiln fired, the glaze is hand painted, and it then goes through a final firing process. These ceramics should not be microwaved as they contain natural minerals in the glazes. Ceramics will live a much longer life if hand washed due to the temperature changes and harshness of a dishwasher.
