Ceramic Mushroom and Malachite Earrings
These precious earrings are made with hand sculpted and hand painted ceramic mushrooms and natural and untreated malachite beads. These are about 1.25 inches in length not including the ear wires, which are made from niobium. Niobium is nickel and lead free and a safer alternative to base metals for those who have sensitivity to metals.
After sculpting, there is a drying period, a bisque fire, they are hand painted, and then go through a glaze firing. During the glaze firing they are set on tiny stilts so they do not fuse with the kiln shelf. Often there are three tiny marks on the tiny ceramic pieces I make, these are not a design flaw but just a mark of firing tiny things in the way I do.
